Metropolis Group picMetropolis Group is the foremost expert in zoning codes and New York City regulations, facilitating the approvals and permits for new construction and renovation of historic and transformational buildings.

After gaining industry experience at one of the most influential architectural firms in New York, Frank Fortino took destiny into his own hands and achieved his career goal in 1988 when he founded Metropolis Group. “I was aggressive and passionate in learning how projects were created, and I got to learn about the city process for filing projects and approvals,” he remembers. “I discover there is another world out there of building and zoning consultants. I wanted to see if I could take zoning, building codes and filing processes and procedures in city agencies to another level.”

Fortino founded the New York-based firm 30 years ago with the vision to create an organization that would provide expert guidance and trusted counsel to the construction industry. “It was not about just taking paper down to agencies in the city, but working with clients on obtaining approvals, permits, dismissal violations and consulting with the owner on every site, which has its own characteristics,” he says. “We want to maximize the potential of the development and earn the client a nice, functional building so they can capitalize on that.”

Some leaders surround themselves with people who agree with everything they do, but that is not the way CEO Richard Haines leads RLH Construction LLC. “[He] doesn’t assume that he’s right all the time or has the best way to do everything,” Vice President of Construction Operations Brandon Conaway says.

“He’s always looking to get input from the people he surrounds himself with,” Conaway continues, adding that this has nurtured a close environment at RLH. “[It feels] very much like a family oriented office, as far as bringing people together and making them feel like a family.”

PWI Construction picPWI Construction Inc.’s commitment to employees, clients and state-of-the-art building methods ensures the success of its luxury commercial projects.

By Jim Harris, Senior Editor at Knighthouse Media

A large part of PWI Construction Inc.’s central business philosophy is contained right in its name – an acronym for “people with integrity.”

“That pretty much says it all,” says Jeff Price, president and founder of the Las Vegas-headquartered commercial builder.

Integrity is one of the company’s three core values, along with “people” and “excellence.” Collectively, these values guide the company’s work with clients, subcontractors and key partners and form the basis of what it calls “the PWI promise.”

“Our value system is what distinguishes us from our competitors,” Price says. “The ‘PWI promise’ is our commitment to our clients to ensure success well after the project is completed.”

GRYCON is managing the construction of 3480 Main Highway, a mixed-use building in Miami’s Coconut Grove that will bring much needed office space to the neighborhood. “The area right now doesn’t have anything close to what we are building,” Project Executive Eric Helitzer says. “We are building a first-class office building in an area where new office space is rare, along with an upscale restaurant, rooftop bar and underground parking.”

Central Builders picWith a focus on craftsmanship and teamwork, Central Builders Inc. delivers projects on or ahead of schedule.

By Staci Davidson

Central Builders Inc. (CBI) deals with the same problems that come standard in the construction industry: remaining on budget, delivering projects on schedule and finding skilled labor to complete the work. But the Texas-based general contractor demonstrates in its nearly 30 years of history that it does not let any of these issues derail its focus. By addressing these issues head on, CBI has developed a long-standing reputation for building quality, award-winning projects.

“What sets us apart is the overall ability to meet schedules and that we have the do-whatever-it-takes attitude to deliver on schedule,” partner and Vice President Bryan Ehrlich says. “We don’t let unforeseen conditions or added scopes of work stop our projects. If something has to get done, we get it done and figure it out later with the owner on how we handle the financial burden of the change.”
